Pete Davidson & His Ex Were On A Break When He Started Dating Ariana Grande

Pete Davidson was technically single when he started dating Ariana Grande, as per insiders close to TMZ, who shed some light on the engaged couple's backstory.

On Sunday (June 17), sources close to TMZ revealed that Davidson and his ex-girlfriend, Cazzie David, were "on a break" in early May when his relationship with Grande sparked. When they hit it off, it became clear that the SNL star was serious about taking things to the next level with the pop star. Thankfully, all parties seem okay with the pair's engagement, including Cazzie, who is just fine with her former flame.

Davidson and Grande became engaged last week after just over a month of dating. After Grande sported her sparkling engagement ring during her iHeartRadio Wango Tango performance, as well as Kanye West and Kid Cudi's Kids See Ghosts album listening party in Santa Clarita, California, Davidson made the ring's debut official via his Instagram account. On Friday, he shared a black-and-white shot of him holding his fiancé's hands, where the pear-shaped ring and her tattoos were put on full display. "It's a recent engagement," an insider close to the situation told PEOPLE when the engagement news hit the blogosphere. "They're just two people who found love quickly and make each other happy all the time. They both started talking about it this past weekend. It's nothing they’ve been hiding."
