Cody Simpson Calls Girlfriend Miley Cyrus His 'Golden Thing' In New Song

Cody Simpson sounds so smitten with girlfriend Miley Cyrus in his latest single.

The 22-year-old musician released a record called “Golden Thing” at the stroke of midnight (October 18), and — as you might’ve guessed — the lyrics are all about his new boo thang. Simpson took to Instagram to tease the record earlier this week with the cover artwork for his new cut, which shows Cyrus, from neck down to chest, wearing necklaces and letting her blonde locks flow freely.

In the romantic ballad, Simpson sings of Cyrus being his “crystal dream, Cali queen” and envisions the two of them unwinding somewhere sandy while he serenades her as the sun begins to rise. “I’m shot/ It’s a golden thing she’s got/ It’s a golden thing and I,” he croons in the captivating chorus over easy-breezy guitar rhythms.

Opening up about the romance that inspired the record, Simpson revealed it was actually the “Mother's Daughter” songbird who persuaded him to drop it. “I wrote her a song this week that she’s pretty much forcing me to put out,” he told PEOPLE at the time. “She was like, ‘If you don’t put this s--t out, I’m putting it out on your behalf for you.' … It’s something I wrote for her while she was sick this week.”

As fans know, Cyrus and Simpson have been seeing each other since earlier this month when the stars were caught kissing out in public. The relationship comes amid the “Malibu” singer’s separation and impending divorce from estranged husband Liam Hemsworth.
